DAY TWO

Well today was an easy day.  Emily bought a mason jar at Hobby Lobby and some burlap flowers and we arranged them.  She will use these for her little centerpiece on her dining room table.

Then since the mason jar project was easy I decided to add a food project so I made Crispy Cheddar Chicken.  I originally saw this on Facebook on Pampered Cooking with Rachael.  She has some great stuff on there.  But I also saw it on Pinterest.  Just search Crispy Cheddar Chicken.  It was DEEEEELISH!

Summer Pinterest Challenge

While taking a break from cross making Emily and I have been working hard on one of her latest projects.  In doing so I decided to challenge myself to actually DO some of the things I pin onto Pinterest.  So....for the next 47 or so days (until school starts) I am challenging myself to complete one craft/food/project a day from Pinterest.

DAY ONE

Friends Pallet Sign - This was our first project.  Em wants to use this sign as a headboard for her guest bedroom in her new house.  (She doesn't move in for about 3 weeks but we are trying to get a head start on decorating ideas.)

For this project we went to Home Depot and picked out 4 fence slats about 6" wide.  These particular slats come in 6 foot lengths.  She wanted ones with variegated textures, knots, grainy wood designs.  One end already has the angled corners so we cut them to about 48" long and angled the other ends to match.  We also purchased a 4" wide x 6 foot long slat for the back supports.  This 4" slat was cut into two pieces about 18" long each.  These were screwed vertically in 4 places on the back.  One screw for each horizontal slat.  She wanted the slats staggered left to right instead of all then ends even.  This is personal preference.

We then turned it over and stained it.  Once dry, Emily picked out a font she liked and printed out the letters on regular copy paper. We cut them all out, traced them onto her boards and painted each letter. This painting part is a slow process and requires patience and a steady hang.  Luckily we both like to paint so this process took us about 1-2 hours.

We will screw in some hooks on the back and string picture wire for hanging. We got so wrapped up in building the sign I forgot to take pictures of that process.  But here are two others..during painting and the finished project.  Well kind of finished.  Emily decided to have her brother go to town on the letters and "rough" them up a little with his knife.  But you definitely don't have to do that.
